Our guests can retreat, enjoy quiet reflection and snuggle down with a good book or engage in activities that are active, unusual and creative. We’re passionate about adventure sports, with offerings to suit all abilities.
We have a picturesque spot on the Swinton Estate which is one of the most beautiful settings in the Yorkshire Dales. The 20,000 acre Swinton Estate stretches from the River Ure and charming market town of Masham in Wensleydale up to the moorland dales and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We are also located in the Nidderdale AONB
Our woodland is spread over the hilltop and is not only home to our gorgeous rustic Tree Lodges, built using traditional round wood timber framing techniques, but also Druid’s Temple, a local historical site and impressive folly constructed during the late 1800s. As you stroll round the woodland there is a plethora of breath taking views looking out over the moorland and valley below.
Bivouac opened in 2012, having been designed by Sam and Beth Hardwick who (in partnership with The Swinton Estate) also project managed the restoration of the farmhouse and barns, and building of the tree lodges and yurts.
Bivouac has a Bistro Café, toilets and showers in the restored barn, six Tree Lodges, eight Meadow Yurts and a cosy Bunk Barn with twelve beds.
